Gifts of the Spirit
In Acts: 2, we read that when the disciples gathered in the upper room, the Holy Spirit filled the room as a mighty gushing wind. After they were filled with the Holy Spirit, they spoke in tongues! They were able to speak in languages that they never knew before! What was this amazing thing? That, my friends, was a gift of the Holy Spirit. I Cor.12:7-12 speaks of the gifts of the Holy Spirit. They are wisdom, knowledge, faith, healing, working miracles, prophecy, discerning of spirits, speaking in tongues and interpretation of tongues.

Wisdom: The first gift of the Holy Spirit is wisdom. Wisdom is the ability to use the knowledge we acquire in this world in a right way. The wisdom that we get from this world is not enough to help us lead a righteous life. The Bible tells us to ask for wisdom and the Holy Spirit will give it to us. The wisdom that is from above is pure, peaceable, gentle, and full of mercy and good fruits. (Jas.3: 17) This wisdom is acquired first by the fear of the Lord. (Ps.111: 10)

Knowledge: The knowledge that we get in this world is also a gift of the Holy Spirit. The worldly knowledge, which men acquire, is sufficient for the carnal man but the knowledge of Him is more important in our daily lives. The Lord gives the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him. (Eph.1: 17-19) The reverential fear of God (Yah) causes us to perfect holiness in our lives. We will know what we sow we reap and that God (Yah) will correct little children.
Faith: Faith means being realistic and recognizing that there is a higher being. The 11th chapter of Hebrews is a gallery of the heroes of faith. Faith is recognizing the existence of God (Yah) and confidence in the word of God (Yah). God (Yah) Himself is the source of faith.

Healing and miracles: Healing and working of miracles, which is a visible proof of the work of the Holy Spirit, cannot be acquired by any source except through the Holy Spirit. When Paul was working miracles in Samaria, Simon wanted to buy the power of the Holy Spirit (Acts.8). Paul rebuked him for thinking that the power of the Holy Spirit could be purchased with money.

Prophecy: That is the ability to foretell future events, which are the more usual sense of prophecy; or to explain scripture by a peculiar gift of the Spirit. The credit and reputation of the early assemblies among unbelievers required them to prefer prophesying rather than speaking in tongues. By prophesying, a convert is convinced of his sins and he will readily repent and be converted.( I Cor.14: 24-25)

Discerning of Spirits: The discerning of Spirits, power to distinguish between true and false prophets, or to discern the real and internal qualifications of any person for an office, or to discover the inward workings of the mind by the Holy Ghost, as Peter understood the mind of Ananias. (Acts.5)

Speaking in tongues: Divers kinds of tongues, or ability to speak languages by inspiration. They were a spiritual gift, intended for the conviction and conversion of unbelievers that, they might be brought into the Christian church. Converts were to be built up in Christianity by profitable instructions in their own language.

Interpretation of tongues: The interpretation of tongues, or ability to translate foreign languages readily and properly into their own. (I Cor.14: 21). The gift of tongues was necessary to spread Christianity, and gather churches. With such variety of spiritual gifts were the first ministers and churches blessed.

God (Yah) gives these gifts to man not for honour or to man’s advantage, but that he may use the gifts in the right way and build the church and bring glory and honour to God (Yah). Spiritual gifts are bestowed, that men may with them profit the church and promote Christianity. They are not given for pomp and show, but for service and edification; not to magnify those that have them, but to edify others, to build the faith of others.
All these gifts proceed from God (Yah). Some receive all the gifts and some receive a few of them, as the Holy Spirit wills. The more the gifts, the greater will be the temptations of the person who receives them. He will meet with more painful experiences while using those gifts.

The Anointing: The gifts of the Holy Spirit are given to people who are anointed by God (Yah). The anointing of the Holy Spirit is given to show God (Yah)’s power and love. This anointing is a gift of God (Yah). (2 Cor.1: 20-22)
The anointing gives wisdom (I John.2: 20,27). The same anointing teaches you all things.
The anointing is given to preach the gospel to the poor, the spiritually poor. It flows to those who are hungry for the Holy Spirit. (Matt.5: 3). The anointing is given to heal and restore people. (Acts.10: 36-38). It is given to proclaim freedom to the captives. (2 Tim.2: 24-26). It is given to open blind eyes. (2 Cor.4: 3-4). It is given to set people free. (Isa.10: 27). The anointing flows in God (Yah)’s timing and also proclaims God (Yah)’s timing. (Eph.2: 10, John.8: 28-24).
The anointing is the river of life that flows from the throne, through your heart and goes into other people’s hearts. (Ps.46: 4; Rev.21: 6) As we continue in the river of God (Yah)’s anointing, it increases in strength until we are carried away by it. (Ezek.47: 1-10)
This anointing will not come on a person if he is not willing to receive it. Envy, pride, bitterness, unforgiving nature can prevent the receiver from accepting the anointing. Though there is great joy in the anointing, we are not to seek the joy but seek God (Yah) and the benefit the anointing can bring to others.
You have the anointing of God (Yah) flowing through you when God (Yah)’s heart touches another person’s heart through you. The anointing is the Holy Spirit. It flows as the river of love from the throne of grace, bringing life to all who receive His touch.
