The Lamb of God (Yahweh)
We all know the setting and the occasion when these words were uttered by John the Baptist. He saw Jesus Christ (Yahshua Messiah) come near the river Jordan and knew that this was the Messiah who would take away the sins of the world. (John.1:29-30, Ex. 12:3, Isa.53:7)
The first picture that comes to our mind when we think of a lamb is that of an innocent, docile animal, an animal that follows its’ master wherever he goes, an animal that would never harm any living being.
Jesus Christ (Yahshua Messiah) is compared to a Lamb in the scriptures. He is called the Lamb in many places. But this Lamb, as we shall see, is at once gentle and loving, as well as mighty and powerful.
A lamb always follows its’ master. But King David called Him the Shepherd (Ps.23:1) Jesus (Yahshua) not only obeyed his Father’s will while on earth but is also the shepherd of his flock on earth. The apostles of the Lamb, the first fruits of the Lord, followed the Lamb (Rev.21: 14). Whoever follows the Lamb will be led to fountains of living waters. They will never thirst again.

The children of Israel were commanded by God (Elohim) to offer sacrifices to him. These sacrifices consisted of bulls, heifers, doves, and lambs or goats. A lamb is a sacrificial animal. Jesus (Yahshua) came into this world as the ultimate sacrifice. He was sacrificed for our sins and by his one sacrifice brought pardon for our sins. Even now he is at the throne of God (Elohim) (Rev.5: 6, 12). On the day of Passover, the children of Israel were commanded to apply the blood of the slain lamb on the doorposts of their houses, so that the angel of death would ‘pass over’ that house. On the day before his crucifixion, Jesus (Yahshua) instituted the New Covenant and gave the cup to his disciples saying,’ this is the blood of the New Covenant which is shed for many’ (Mark.14: 24) Just as the blood of the lamb was used as an atonement for sin (Heb.9: 22), the blood of Jesus Christ (Yahshua Messiah) cleans us of our sins (Rev.7: 14)

Can you think of a lowly lamb as having authority? The book of life is in his hands! It belongs to him. (Rev.13:8, 21:27)) All the authority that worldly leaders have is like dust before the authority that Jesus Christ (Yahshua Messiah) has! Not only has he the book of life but he also controls history. The story of history is written in it even before it happens. He presides over our destiny. (Rev6:1)
Though Christ (Messiah) is a Lamb, he can be angry and his anger can be fearful, because if Christ (Messiah), who is our Redeemer and Mediator, is angry, who will come to our help? (Rev.6: 16) Even the mightiest of men will not be able to stand in the day of his anger. Psa.2: 12 says, ‘kiss the Son, lest he be angry…’ Do not provoke the Lord to anger because if we do, it is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God (Elohim).(Heb.10: 31)

We often read in the scriptures that the Lord will fight our battles for us (Ex.14:14). Can a lamb fight? Our idea of a lamb is that of a meek animal. But we see in the Scriptures that not only will our Lamb fight but he will be victorious in the last war of Armageddon (Rev.17:14). The slain Lamb has seven horns (Rev.5:6). Horns are a symbol of authority, power. Seven is the complete number. So the Lamb has the ultimate authority and power.  In that final war, the captain of the host of the Lord (Josh.5:14), Michael, one of the chief princes (Dan10:13, Rev.12:7) will make war with against Satan and his armies and will defeat Satan and cast him down.

John saw in his revelation a new heaven and a new earth and a New Jerusalem (Rev.21:1-2). In that holy city there is no temple ‘for the Lord Almighty and the Lamb are the temple of it’. He is to be worshipped, because he is worthy to take the book of life and to open the seals. He will be worshipped in the heavens, by the angels and the elders and the four beasts. A great multitude

without number stands by the throne, dressed in white robes, washed by the blood of the Lamb, praising and worshipping the Lamb.

Then the church of God (Elohim), clothed in fine linen of purity, love, unity and brotherhood, will be publicly owned by Christ (Messiah), as his bride. This church will not be divided by denominations or doctrines, false teachings or earthly concerns, but will be one church, built on the corner stone of Christ (Messiah)  , with Christ (Messiah), the Lamb, as it high Priest.

What a contrasting picture of the Lamb! He came into this world as a lowly sacrificial lamb, and at the same time as our new High Priest. He is the victim and the victor. As we commemorate his death and resurrection, let us think of the great sacrifice that God (Elohim) has done by sending his only begotten Son, to die on the cross for our sins. Let us be thankful to Him and lead pure and holy lives and let us not crucify him by falling into sin again (Heb.6:6).
O Lamb of God (Elohim) that takest way the sins of the world, have mercy upon us!
Hallelujah!
