The Lord’s Prayer is a prayer the Lord Jesus taught His disciples in Matt.6:9-13 and Luke 11:2-4. Many people misunderstand the Lord’s Prayer to be a prayer we are supposed to recite word for word. Some people treat the Lord’s Prayer as a magic formula, as if the words themselves have some specific power or influence with God (Yahweh). Many people preach the power of other prayers like the so-called Sinner’s prayer or the prayer of Jabez. Is the Sinner’s prayer going to take you to heaven? It is not even found in the Bible! Repeating the prayer of Jabez is like repeating a mantra which heathens use. It is a very selfish prayer in which Jabez was concerned only about himself. God demonstrated His love by prospering His people. But that was before Messiah came to this world. God is far more interested in our communicating with Him and speaking from our hearts than He is in the specific words we use. Phil. 4:6-7 declares, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, When Moses approached God on Mount Sinai, he heard a voice saying, "Do not come near; put off your shoes from your feet, for the place on which you are standing is holy ground." In the Lord's Prayer, Jesus invites us to draw near to God who is beyond human understanding, who dwells in mystery, who is all holy. We can Call God (Yahweh) “Our father” By calling God "Father" we are correctly describing ourselves and our relationship with God. Jesus teaches that we have a father-children relationship with God; God sees us as if we were a daughter or a son. And we, on our part, can approach God in the familiar confident way a child approaches a loving parent. What is more, we approach God through God's only Son, Jesus Christ, who unites us to himself Life is not easy. It is a daily battle. Trials like sickness and failure can crush our spirits. False values and easy promises can entice us and even destroy our souls. And so we ask God to keep us from failing when we are tested, to help us to know the right thing to do, to deliver us from the evil which awaits us in life.
