Crying ‘Wolf, wolf’.
We all know the story of the shepherd boy who used to cry ‘wolf, wolf’ just to tease the others. When the wolf finally attacked the sheep, there was no one to come to the boy’s help, because people had become immune to his cries.
Similarly, there have been many people who have prophesied that the world will end on a particular day but their prophesies have failed. The latest being 21 Dec 2012.
The Bible says in Deut.18:22,’ When a prophet speaketh in the name of the LORD, if the thing follow not, nor come to pass, that is the thing which the LORD hath not spoken, but the prophet hath spoken it presumptuously: thou shalt not be afraid of him.’
Some of the dates the world was supposed to end as per the predictions are given below:
E.G. White (Seventh Day Adventist) prophesied the world would end in 1843, 1844, 1845 and 1851.
William Miller tricked thousands of followers, or Millerites, when he declared that the world would end between March 21, 1843 and March 21, 1844. Miller recalculated and said that 1845 was the year.
Jehovah's Witnesses. Founded in the 1870s by a follower of William Miller, the Jehovah's Witnesses have set the end of the world for 1874, 1914, 1918, 1920, 1925 and 1941, and all passed without the return of the Son of God.
Herbert W. Armstrong: The founder of the Worldwide Church of God, Herbert W. Armstrong, told members of his church that the Rapture would take place in 1936, and that only they would saved. After the prophecy failed, he changed the date three more times 1943, 1972, and 1975.
Jeanne Dixon , who is best known for predicting the assassination of JFK, also predicted the end of the world in 1970.
Pat Robertson, TV Evangelist and former Republican presidential candidate said, “I guarantee by the end of 1982 there is going to be a judgment on this world,” Robertson had said, predicting Armageddon followed by seven “nightmare years” of suffering. He later set the dates for 2006, 2008 and 2010.
Harold Camping, Radio preacher Harold Camping was the latest figure to predict Judgment Day, which he was expecting on May 21, 2011 based on his application of numerology to readings of the Bible. Though millions waited with bated breath Jesus did not come to collect the faithful as Camping had said.
These people, though they were misguided, were right about one thing-Yahshua Messiah is coming back one day. The Bible says no man knows the day or the hour of Christ's return to earth. Many unbelievers joke as though the return of Christ will never come.
But scripture tell us that there will be a second coming of Messiah. Here are some Bible verses that illustrate the return of Yahshua Messiah. Will you be ready?
Mat 24:36, But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only.
Mat 24:42, Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come.
1Th 5:2, For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night
2Pe 3:10, But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.
Rev 3:3, Remember therefore how thou hast received and heard, and hold fast, and repent. If therefore thou shalt not watch, I will come on thee as a thief, and thou shalt not know what hour I will come upon thee.
Rev 16:15, Behold, I come as a thief. Blessed is he that watcheth, and keepeth his garments, lest he walk naked, and they see his shame.
Acts.1:11 makes it clear that the same Yahshua who left will one day return. And he will return the same way that he left. Yahshua is coming back personally, literally and visibly.
Acts 1 tells us that Yahshua was caught up in a cloud and taken to heaven. It is the cloud that represents the glory of God. Luke 21:27 tells us that Yahshua will return “in a cloud with power and great glory.”
The first time Yahshua came unnoticed into this world but when he comes the second time ‘every eye will see him’ (Rev.17). He will come as the King of Kings and Lord of Lords, as a Judge to judge all nations.
The religious leaders of his day mocked him but now every knee will bow and every tongue confess that Yahshua Messiah is Lord, to the glory of God the Father (Philippians 2:9-11).
The Bible tells us that the hour is ‘at hand’. It means that there is a possibility of nearness, and uncertainity of the time. Mark.13:33 warns us ‘Take heed, watch and pray, for ye know not when the time is’. This should warn us against the danger of setting dates and reading too much into the “signs” of the end times. Jesus wants us to see that knowing the exact date is not important but being ready is!
There is a definite day on which Christ will come to judge the world. Acts.17:31 ‘because he has appointed a day in which he will judge the world in righteousness’.
What should we do to be prepared for his second coming?
We should encourage and comfort each other. (1 Thes.4:18)Tell others about the soon coming Messiah. Prepare them with the Word. We should be committed and involved in teaching others.
Live pure lives, live as if he is coming today. (1Jn.2:28) Ask Messiah to save you. Turn to him (repent) and be reconciled to him. Do not leave it till the last hour—Messiah is calling you now; respond to him now
Rev.3:20,’Behold, I stand at the door and knock’, are we ready to open the door of our hearts to him? |
