The Anointing:
One very common word we hear these days during revival meetings or on TV is the word ‘anoint’. This is more so among Pentecostals and Charismatics.  Not only is the word overused, it is also misunderstood, given a meaning that does not apply to it. These preachers claim to be under the anointing, feel the anointing and describe it as heat or electricity running through them.
So, since the word "anointed" is used so liberally today, perhaps it is a good idea to take an in-depth look at what the word means according to Scripture.
Definition of ‘anoint’.
Webster’s Dictionary: To pour oil upon; to smear or rub over with oil or unctuous substances; also to spread over, as oil. We say, the man anoints another, or the oil anoints him.
Easton’s Bible Dictionary: The act of anointing was significant of consecration to a holy or sacred use; hence the anointing of the high priest and of the sacred vessels. The high priest and the king are thus called “the anointed”. Prophets were also anointed.
ISBE:   The thought is to appoint, or qualify for a special dignity, function or privilege. It is in this sense that the word is applied to Messiah (John.1:41; Acts.4:27; Acts.10:38; Heb.1:9; Psa.2:2; Dan.9:25)

In the Old Testament, the following were anointed: Aaron and his sons, High Priests, priests (Lev.4:3, 5, 16; 6:20; Psa.132:10), many kings, the Tabernacle and all articles in it, the patriarchs and only one prophet, Elisha (1 Ki. 19:16; 1 Chr.16:22; Psa.105:15).
Anointing a king was equal to crowning him, in Israel a crown was not required (1 Sam.16:13; 2 Sam.2:4.). David was anointed as king by the prophet Samuel. Yahshua was also anointed as High Priest
So we can see that anointing in the Bible means to consecrate or set apart for a holy use. It is not a special power given to a select few.

In the New Testament all believers are said to be anointed, ‘Now he that establisheth us with you in Messiah, and anointed us, is Elohim;’ [2 Cor.1:21]
As a believer you have the anointing, and ye have an anointing from the Holy One, and ye know all the things. [1 John. 2:20].
It is not just a selected few who are anointed. As the above verses show, we are all anointed for his use.
It is not that those that have the anointing are more gifted than other believers, or have special 'powers' that other believers do not have.
‘And as for you, the anointing which ye received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any one teach you; but as his anointing teacheth you; concerning all things, and is true, and is no lie, and even as it taught you, ye abide in him.’ [1 John 2:27]

The anointing is a not supernatural power given to human by which they are able to perform miracles.
There is no such thing as a double or triple portion of the anointing. Elisha did not ask for a double portion of Elijah's anointing, but for a double portion of his spirit. The words are totally different in Hebrew. As Deuteronomy 21:17 shows, a double portion was the right of the first born, therefore Elisha’s request was, quite possibly, to be heir to Elijah's office and gifts. The Bible never once says, or even implies, that anyone can transmit the anointing by any means, including the laying on of hands The Bible never once refers to anyone getting, keeping, increasing, or losing the anointing. The Bible has never shown Yahshua or any of the apostles teaching anyone how to obtain the anointing.
In the Old Testament Preachers and Teachers were not "Anointed". But now they regard themselves as having a unique calling from God who has supplied them with extraordinary gifts and powers, they are entitled to unconditional authority. When criticized they quote Psalm 105:15, which says "Touch not mine Ans:I Ki.3:9; Exo.3:2; Lk.1:32-33; Lev.26:46; Gen.29:30; Matt6:6; Mk.1:9; Rev.21:2; Gen.2:7; Lk.1:26.anointed ones, and do my prophets no harm". The anointed ones in this case were the patriarchs Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, who were obviously 'set aside' for a specific purpose. Therefore Elohim protected them in their wanderings and kept them from danger, even reproving kings for their sakes. Elohim called Abraham a prophet in Genesis 20:7. The present day preachers should read Psalms 105 fully to know the correct meaning of verse 15.

The word "Touch" means Physical Contact, not verbal opposition or criticism. (Read Gen.3:3, Gen.20:6, Lev.11:8, Num.4:15, 2 Sam.5:8, Dan.10:16.)
The Lord's anointed were often rebuked by others. Though Saul was anointed king over Israel, he was rebuked by Samuel for disobeying Elohim’s command. (1 Sam.15:19). Prophet Nathan did not hesitate to reprove David and pronouncing Elohim's judgment on the king (2 Sam. l: 12), when he sent Uriah to be killed in battle. The apostle Paul openly rebuked Peter because Peter was wrongly treating the Gentiles as second class citizens. (Gal.2:11).

Today, many preachers have become gurus. People go to them to get “revelation.” As Protestants we now have not one but several Popes. They are called the anointed, the new apostles and prophets. People soak in everything these preachers tell without any hesitation, instead of studying the Bible like the Bereans.
There is only one Anointed One and that is Yahshua. In Acts 2:36, Peter says Elohim has made Yahshua both Lord and Messiah, (anointed one). If the church wants the true anointing we need to get under the anointed one who was made head of the Church.
