The false prosperity gospel: Listen carefully to the tele-evangelists and most of time you will find that they end up telling you that in order to receive blessings (financial) and prosper, you must ‘sow a seed’, the seed being money given to the evangelists. They have twisted the parable of the sower and tell that the seed is money. The Bible clearly stated that the seed is the word of Elohim. "God wants us to prosper financially, to have plenty of money, to fulfill the destiny He has laid out for us," Osteen wrote in a 2005 letter to his flock. The prosperity gospel (or the health and wealth gospel) teaches that Elohim desires the material, spiritual, and physical prosperity of his people. To become prosperous, all one has to do is speak your desire and receive it. The Bible has very clearly laid down the guidelines for us to inherit Elohim’s blessings. Prosperity comes as a result of meditating on His word. Prosperity comes when our soul prospers. We must get rid of wrong thinking that poverty is a blessing, so that we may receive His abundant blessing. Poverty in the Old Testament was considered part of the curse of the law (Deut.28:15). Elohim wants us to prosper just any father wishes his children to prosper. The Lord is happy to see his children prosper. “Let them shout for joy, and be glad, that favour my righteous cause: yea, let them say continually, Let the LORD be magnified, which hath pleasure in the prosperity of his servant.” (Ps.35:27) Prosperity comes when we have faith. The prosperity gospel that is taught these days is a false gospel. Many tele-evangelists have laid up treasures on earth because their gullible followers support them financially. The gospel of prosperity is the fastest growing segment of Christianity today -- the Word-Faith Movement. Well-known personalities within the Word-Faith Movement include Kenneth Hagin, Kenneth Copeland, Robert Tilton, Benny Hinn, Joyce Meyer Frederick K.C. Price, the list is quite long. The Lord is happy to see his children prosper and he has also told us how we can prosper. Jesus says to us, "So do not worry, saying, 'What shall we eat?' or 'What shall we drink?' or 'What shall we wear?' ... your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness and all these things will be given to you as well." |
