The things that the Lord hates:
There are some things that we love as well as something that we don’t like or ‘hate’.
Nobody likes any negative thing. We do not like people talking negatively about us, we do not like to hear negative news. We want to hear only good things.
That is one of the reasons some preachers like Joel Osteen are so popular. Thy do not ever talk about sin and its’ consequences. They tell people how to live happy lives, how to find their ‘purpose’ in life, etc. They never make people feel bad by talking about the sin in their lives. They never talk about hell. A preacher who never talks about sin and hell should be avoided at any cost.

Just like us, Elohim also has His likes and dislikes. In Proverbs we read about the things that he hates.

Pro 6:16,”These six things doth the LORD hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him:  A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood,  An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief,  A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren”. Actually not just these seven things but there are about forty-five things that he hates.

Haughty eyes or a proud look: This describes a man who is proud of his achievements and looks down on others. Man is proud of his education, job, status, wealth that he forgets that it is Yahweh who has given him all this. Remember Lucifer, in Isaiah 14. He thought he would ascend into heaven and exalt himself above the stars of Elohim. But pride brought him down. In Lk.18:9-14 a story is told about a Pharisee and a publican. The Pharisee was filled with his own righteousness and was proud of the way he kept the commandments. The Lord hates this king of pride. We should always remember Yahshua Messiah who, even though he was a King, came down to earth and lived a humble life.

A lying tongue: Lying means making a false statement. We have our own reasons for telling lies. Parents lie to children to keep them away from something, children lie to hide the truth, husbands and wives regularly lie to each other. We are a generation of liars. We lie when we feel that the other person cannot handle the truth. But a lie is a lie and Elohim hates it. Messiah tells us in Matt.5:37 that our conversation should be ‘yea’ or ‘nay’, nothing more or less. If we lie, remember we belong to the devil, because he is the father of lies (Jn.8:44).

Hands that shed innocent blood: Elohim is our creator. He created us and sustains us. He is on the side of the innocent and helpless. So he hates those who shed innocent blood, those who take the lives of persons. Messiah was the innocent Lamb of Yahweh. After Judas Iscariot betrayed him, he confessed that he had betrayed innocent blood.  Those who crucified him were guilty of shedding innocent blood. Remember, abortion is a sin because an innocent life is being killed.

Wicked imagination: Jer.17:9, the heart is deceitful above all and desperately wicked. The heart of man is always devising mischief. The imagination of man is vain. In Matt.15: Messiah said that out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, thefts, false witness and adulteries. Yahweh knows our thoughts. If our thoughts are pure, we will always meditate on the things of Yahweh and He loves such a heart and hates evil thoughts.

Feet that are swift in running to mischief: An evil idea is born in the heart and our feet put our wicked thoughts into action. Isa.59:1-7 tells about an evil man and how his feet run to evil to shed innocent blood. He can’t wait to do evil and commit that sin. This shows a heart that is inclined to do evil rather than good. Compare this with the feet of Messiah, who went about all the country doing good. Tit.2:14 tells us that Messiah came to that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.

A false witness: The ninth commandment states “thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor” (Ex.20:16). Messiah taught his followers to be truthful in what they say. He said ‘I am the way, the truth and the life”. When we speak falsehood we are denying our Messiah. In Matt.5:11-12, we are told that we are blessed when men accuse us falsely on account of Him. False witness is a common trick of people who are led by the devil. False witnesses were brought to testify against Messiah before his crucifixion. David cried that false witnesses were risen up against him. Paul was accused by false witness. Do not be discouraged. Our reward is great in heaven when we overcome these temptations.

Sowing discord among brethren: Our world is filled with busybodies who go about spreading gossip. The feel that they are not doing any harm but what they fail to realize is that they are sowing discord among people. In churches there are many people who sow such seeds of discord to discredit someone and bring divisions. Messiah prayed for unity (Jn.17:21). Phil.2:3 warns us ‘let nothing be done through strife’. Matt.5:9 ‘blessed are the peacemakers’.  Because Yahweh loves unity, he hates on who sows discord.

Elohim hates sin. We also should hate sin. When tempted to sin, remember to ‘resist the devil and he will flee from you’ (Jas.4:7). Let us consider our Lord Yahshua Messiah, who led a sinless life and let us also try to lead a pure and holy life.
