Messiah, the great One. Luke.1:32
When the angel appeared to Mary before Yahshua Messiah was born, the angel declared that the child ‘shall be great, and will be called the Son of the Highest..’. Yahshua is great in many ways. There are many things that are ‘great’ about Him.

Great Elohim in being (Tit.2:13):” Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ;”.  Elohim is great in many ways. He is great in nature because he is love, great in character because he is holy, great in name because he is the Almighty, great in creation because he has created the whole universe with just his words, great in judgment because he is just, great in his promises because they are all yea and Amen! He is great in purpose !

Great love in action (Eph.2:4)“But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us…
John 3:16,”For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life”. John. 15:13,”Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends”. He has called us his friends and laid down his life so that we may have eternal life.
Great salvation in blessing (Heb.2:3) How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation; which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed unto us by them that heard him;”. Salvation is great because its’ Author is the Son of God, who is superior to the angels, who is called Elohim in Heb.1:8, who made all things, and who is eternal. Salvation is great because it saves us from great sins, and saves us from the great danger of hell. It is great because it was purchased not by the blood of bulls and goats but by the precious blood of the Lamb, Yahshua Messiah.

Great mercy in grace (Ps.103:11). ’For as the heaven is high above the earth, so great is his mercy toward them that fear him.” Mercy means compassion or forgiveness shown towards someone when it is within one's power to punish or harm. Man’s sinful nature has always been known to Elohim. It is because He could not bear to see his beloved creation slide deeper into sin, he sent his only begotten Son that whosoever believes on Him should have everlasting life. We do not deserve to be pardoned. But Elohim in his great mercy is offering us His pardon. Mercy is loving kindness in action.

Great in power (Ps.147:5)’Great is our Lord, and of great power, his understanding is infinite.’ Isa.40:26,’ Lift up your eyes on high, and behold who hath created these things, that bringeth out their host by number: he calleth them all by names by the greatness of his might, for that he is strong in power; not one faileth.’ To His intelligence there is no limit. To His creative power there is no limit. He is great in time because He created time, He is great in power because he is the source of all power, He is great in understanding because nothing he created can understand him, He is great in love because no one loves like He does.

Great light (Is.9:2) Isa 9:2. The people that walked in darkness have seen a great light: they that dwell in the land of the shadow of death, upon them hath the light shined. Light is something through which we see clearly. When Elohim created man he breathed into his nostrils life, which filled him with rational light and knowledge. Absence of this light is darkness-spiritual darkness, i.e, ignorance and rejection of the Word. Through this light or understanding of Elohim man is able to have a rational view of good and evil.

Great in protection (Is.32:2). And a man shall be as an hiding place from the wind, and a covert from the tempest; as rivers of water in a dry place, as the shadow of a great rock in a weary land. David sang a song to Elohim after the He had rescued him from his enemies, especially Saul. He sang, ’Our Lord and our Elohim, you are my mighty rock, my fortress, my protector.’ (2Sam.22:2) All around us we see troubles, sorrow, weariness and danger. Trial and temptations haunt us. Everything seems to go wrong. It is at times like these that we realize that Elohim is all we need and we take shelter under his shadow. At such times we take shelter in his presence, in his power and in his grace.

Great Shepherd (Heb.13:20). “Now the Elohim of peace, that brought again from the dead our Lord Yahshua, that great shepherd of the sheep…” Messiah has always been called ‘Shepherd’. A shepherd leads his flock, through the grassy plains, the hills and the valleys. The sheep feel secure in his presence. They know that the shepherd will never lead them in the wrong or dangerous paths. Sin, disease, death, grave and hell, all stood in Messiah’s way but he overcame them all and won victory over the grave. Now, like a shepherd, he will overcome our enemies and protects us by his grace.

Great King (Psa.48:2) “Beautiful for situation, the joy of the whole earth, is mount Zion, on the sides of the north, the city of the great King.” No other king in history is as great as Him. He is glorious in holiness, abundant in mercy, limitless in love, promise keeper, almighty in power, our constant companion and righteous in rule. “He is high and exalted; he is a Being of great power and glory. He is not weak and feeble, like the idols worshipped by other nations. He is able to defend his people; he has shown his great power in overthrowing the mighty forces that were gathered together against the city where he dwells.” (Albert Barnes)

What a mighty Elohim we serve! But listen to what the prophet Jeremiah said,’ For my people have committed two evils; they have forsaken me the fountain of living waters, and hewed them out cisterns, broken cisterns, that can hold no water’ (Jer. 2:13) . Even today people have forsaken the True and Great Elohim and have followed gods who are not gods. Messiah said that no man can serve two masters. We have a great Elohim, one who laid down His own life so that we may have eternal life. Let us turn back to the true Elohim and like Joshua say, ’as for me and my house, we will serve Yahweh.’
