Monthly Spiritual Manna TRUMPETS Vol.20: No.6 June 2020 |
Pro 16:3,’Commit thy works unto the LORD, and thy thoughts shall be established.’ We are all committed to something or somebody, earning money, retirement, a happy life, etc. We go out of the way trying to achieve these things, at the cost of enjoying life. We need to examine our own commitment to make sure we are committed to the right things. Commitment to Elohim: And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment.(Mar 12:30). It is very common to see many Christians going regularly to church on Sundays. They sing the hymns, listen to the sermon and greet everyone outside the church. They feel that they have fulfilled their obligation to Elohim for that week. Once they leave the church, they are busy in their work and have no place for Elohim till next Sunday. Commitment to Elohim should be 24*7, not just Sabbath or Sunday. Your first commitment is your first priority. Mat.6:21,’for where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.’ Commitment to your family. Eph 5:22 Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord. Eph 5:25 Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it; These verses tell us how our relationship with our family should be. Lack of commitment is the leading cause of divorce in this world. It is the reason for 50% of the broken homes. Exo.20:12 says,’Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee. How much do our parents mean to us? Are we really showing them the respect due to them? Are we taking care of them in their old age? In these days of short lived marriages, it is the children who suffer. Are we leading exemplary lives for our children. Are we taking care of all their needs? 1Tim. 5:8… But if any provide not for his own, and specially for those of his own house, he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel! Col 3:18-20.. Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as it is fit in the Lord. Husbands, love your wives, and be not bitter against them. Children, obey your parents in all things: for this is well pleasing unto the Lord. Commitment to church. We are all committed to our church attendance. But we also have ‘Sunday-itis’. Commit your finances: ‘He that loveth pleasure shall be a poor man: he that loveth wine and oil shall not be rich.’ (Pro 21:17)Plan your budget. The old adage says ’cut your coat according to the cloth’. Good food, drink, comfort, exciting holiday experiences all end in our financial ruin. Spending in competition with our neighbors(keeping up with the Jones’), unnecessary expenditure, ’ego spending’ all end up in paying EMIs which leave nothing for our daily needs. ‘The rich ruleth over the poor, and the borrower is servant to the lender’.( Pro 22:7). Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not high minded, nor trust in uncertain riches, (1Ti 6:17). Worldly riches are uncertain, we can’t trust in them. …he that earneth wages earneth wages to put it into a bag with holes. (Hag.1:6). ‘Wherefore do ye spend money for that which is not bread?’ (Isa 55:2). We are all committed to something—earning money, keeping up with the Jones’, giving children what you did not have as a child… Man’s works are not pure. All our works, they do not profit us (Isa.57:12). If we commit ourselves and our deficiencies to the Lord, he will work in us (Isa.26:12). His work will establish peace in us (Isa.26:3-5). |
